Market Square Knoxville TNDowntown Knoxville has been undergoing a transformation through urban revitalization over the past several years. With a mix of unique history and newly revitalized residential housing and businesses, Downtown has become a popular destination for both local residents and those relocating to the area. Gay Street, Market Square, and the Old City are now lined with lofts that appeal to every type of housing consumer, and the increasing variety of Downtown festivals, events, Farmer’s Markets, restaurants, and shopping is a real positive for those seeking an urban lifestyle.  A large contributor to the change in Downtown Knoxville is the Market Square District Association, which is described on their website to be:

“The Market Square District Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to balancing the needs of residents, businesses, property owners, government and the community through ongoing communication and collaboration.”

The MSDA offers a variety of events within Market Square, including the Farmer’s Market, First Friday, and festivals such as the HoLa Festival.

The Downtown Knoxville Central Business Improvement District is another key contributor to the revitalization of both business and residential properties in Downtown Knoxville, and they are described on their website as:

“The Downtown Knoxville CBID was created in 1993 to undertake programs and services that government is unable to provide. Its core mission is to enhance downtown’s existing assets and bring more people to Downtown Knoxville to work, shop, live and play.”

Also on their website, the CBID offers a Downtown Guide, outlining Downtown businesses by category, as well as information on parking and safety.
