Cades Cove: Rewind Back in Time

Sometimes you just want to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you live in East Tennessee, you are just a short drive from a place where time truly stands still. As you pass through Townsend, TN, and you wind your way up into the mountains and back in time to a place without cell phones, computers, meetings, or agendas. Cades Cove is rich with history, with strong ties to the Cherokee throughout the 18th century. The European settlement of Cades Cove began with John Oliver coming to the area in 1818 and William Tipton arriving in 1821. To learn more about the history of Cades Cove, click here.

From horseback riding tours, fall hayrides, cycling, hiking, and just a leisurely drive through the scenic loop, Cades Cove is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and renew. Where else can you have a picnic in a meadow while you watch for whitetail deer or walk through the homesteads, churches, and cemeteries of the original settlers foras little as the price of the gas in your car?

Over the weekend, I visited Abrams Falls trail, about halfway through the scenic loop in Cades Cove. A moderately difficult 2.5 mile hike each way, Abrams falls takes you up, down, and around the mountain to a beautiful waterfall. We are very blessed in East Tennessee to have such amazing outdoor recreation just a short drive from home!

Love the mountains so much you want to stay? Well, we can’t sell you a house in Cades Cove, since it is inside a National Park, but check out these wonderful properties nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains.
